Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 2 medium onions thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar optional, to help caramelize
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup cream cheese softened
  • ¼ cup finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tbsp pickle juice
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Fresh chives or dill for garnish, optional

Method
 

  1. Caramelize the Onions
  2. Heat butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions, salt, and sugar. Cook slowly for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and jammy. Let cool slightly.
  3. Mix the Creamy Base
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayo, and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add the Flavor
  6. Stir in chopped pickles, pickle juice, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until fully combined.
  7. Combine & Chill
  8. Fold in caramelized onions. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to blend.
  9. Serve & Enjoy
  10. Garnish with chives or dill. Serve with potato chips, pretzels, or veggie sticks.

Notes

For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
Add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne for a spicy kick.
